The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) works at the crossroads of livestock and poverty, bringing high-quality livestock science, communications and capacity building to bear on poverty reduction and sustainable development.

ILRI is one of 15 centres supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). ILRI has campuses in Kenya (headquarters) and Ethiopia, with other offices located in other regions of Africa (Mali, Mozambique, Nigeria) as well as in South Asia (India, Sri Lanka), Southeast Asia (Laos, Thailand, Vietnam) and East Asia (China).

ILRI hosts the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Nairobi. IITA (www.iita.org) with its headquarters in Ibadan, Nigeria, works with partners throughout Africa and beyond to reduce producer and consumer risks, enhance crop quality and productivity, and generate wealth from agriculture.

ILRI seeks to recruit a Research Technician on behalf of IITA to provide support to the team working on Plant Transformation Project in carrying out research.

The candidate will be based at BecA hub and will be expected to collaborate with IITA partners across the region and Advanced Research Institutes across the world.

Specific responsibilities will include:
·       Routine work on Plant Regeneration and Plant Genetic transformation
·       General Plant Tissue Culture and Molecular Biology
·       Maintenance of bacterial cultures
·       Genetic Analysis of engineered bacteria and transgenic plants
·       Record keeping and Data Analysis
·       Some supervision of Junior staffs in the group
·       Any other duties assigned
The successful candidate should have:
·       First degree (B.Sc.) in Biotechnology /Molecular Biology/ Biochemistry or relevant field with
·       At least 1 year experience in Plant Transformation, Tissue Culture and Molecular Biology
·       Computer literacy, data organization and statistical analysis skills
·       Able to cope with heavy intermittent workloads extending beyond office hours and during weekends
·       Good interpersonal and communication skills
Terms of appointment: This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) open to Kenyan Nationals only and will be based at ILRI’s Nairobi campus.

This position is on a 1-year fixed term contract subject to six months probation period, individual performance and availability of funding. Salary and benefits will be in line with those provided within ILRI’s NRS scheme.

Job level and salary: This position is a job level 2A and starting is KES 64,833 per month. This is exclusive of other benefits provided within ILRI’s National Recruited Staff Scheme.

The Position

Reporting to Senior Manager, Application Development, the developer will require interaction with third party service providers as well as other internal IT units.

The Person

We are looking for talent, proven application developers to join our Information Technology team.

For the position, the successful applicants should have: -
·       A Bachelors of Science in Computing or related degree from a recognised University
·       Java programming certification - The developers should have in depth skills in jbase/java that is provable and quantifiable (code samples and/ or project descriptions) as the bulk of our development work is in or interfaced with T24 banking system (T24 is a jbase/java system).
·       Interested in learning and has a creative mind set.
·       Provable experience working on web or mobile application projects (work history with links to previous website projects)
In particular, the applicant should have at least 2 years working experience in:-
·       Developing applications, defining and testing the software or systems after development to ensure that the set functional and security parameters are in place.

·       Knowledge of SQL programming. SQL Server 2005/8 Administration and performance tuning will be an added advantage.

The Position

Reporting to the Senior Manager Electronic Frauds, the position will be responsible for the delivery of agreed objectives in proactive fraud management and investigation of frauds perpetrated through electronic means and keep the business informed of emerging electronic fraud threats.

The Person
·       University Degree from a recognized institution with a bias towards IT CISA or Professional Information Security Qualification: CISSP/CISM or Network Certification : CCNA
·       Qualification in any banking disciplines is an added advantage.
·       Minimum of 2-3 years IT experience
·       Understanding of information security technologies
·       Forensic investigations experience
·       Experience in a banking environment
·       Use of CAATs.
·       Understanding of criminal law
·       Must have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills as well as being meticulous, diligent, and observant
